Black slate stone cladding Z Tiles Clad Panels cement backing are one of the traditional materials for wall and exterior cladding. Designed and popular in the Welsh Slate region, they are produced at our owned Westone Slate Quarry. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications, each panel is crafted with a cement backing reinforced with a fibreglass mesh. The individual Clad is shaped in a Z form to conceal seams. Available size include 550 x 200 mm.
Corners for the second variant must be purchased together with the straight panels. Orders for corners only will be canceled and refunded.

With the cement backing, these premium panels are heavier, so we’ve thoughtfully added hooks to facilitate installation. You can screw the panels to the wall first, then use a cement and adhesive mix to secure them in place, ensuring even greater stability.
The natural aesthetics of black slate are strikingly evident when applied to walls. Its 3D rugged surface and seamless installation not only save time and reduce costs but also make it a preferred choice for homeowners and designers seeking the charm of natural Welsh black slate. Exterior stone cladding adds a sense of strength and character to any property, beautifully showcasing its natural allure.
Since 2009, our overseas factory, Westone, has been dedicated to producing high-quality natural stone cladding. We take pride in offering our customers competitive prices while delivering exceptional value for exterior stone cladding solutions.

Cement-Backed Stone Cladding – Technical Characteristics
- Seamless Interlocking: Precision-cut Z panels create a continuous natural stone façade with minimal visible joints.
- Rigid Cement Backing: Cement backing provides structural stability comparable to brick or block construction.
- Architectural Compatibility: Suitable for both contemporary and traditional elevations.
- Hook Fixing System: Cement-backed panels are designed for hook fixing , allowing rapid and accurate installation.
- Low Maintenance: No routine surface treatment required in most external applications.
- Long-Term Durability: Designed for exposed environments and long service life.
- Cement-backed stone cladding is NOT suitable for curved wall applications.
Where required, we recommend high-performance stone cladding adhesives to complement hook fixing.
Stone Cladding Sample Policy
Stone cladding samples are provided to allow customers to view the genuine colour, tone, texture, and surface character of the stone before placing a full official order. Due to the weight of our stone cladding and the handling methods used by standard parcel couriers, stone cladding sample delivery conditions are not comparable to professional palletised stone transport.
Important notice: All stone cladding samples are non-returnable and non-refundable, regardless of their condition on arrival. Sample charges are applied solely to cover costs, handling, and courier charges.
Each sample box consists of 4 full-size stone cladding panels (approximately 30 kg in total). Samples are supplied for assessing the stone itself, including colour variation, texture, and overall appearance, and are not intended to evaluate the condition of adhesive layers or cement backing after courier transit.
Based on long-term experience, it is common for stone cladding samples to experience damage during parcel delivery, including partial detachment of stone from the backing. This occurs due to the weight of the stone cladding material and the non-specialist nature of courier handling, and does not indicate a defect in the stone.
Samples are packed in standard cartons and are not reinforced for rough courier handling. If stone detachment or damage occurs during transit, this should not be a cause for concern.
If your primary purpose in ordering a sample is to confirm the stone’s colour, texture, and visual character, we are happy to supply samples provided you understand and accept the possibility of backing detachment during delivery. Please contact us if clarification is required.
Full orders are handled differently. All official production orders are palletised, reinforced, and securely packed for professional stone logistics via Palletways. Stone movement or detachment during full official order transport is extremely rare.
Please note that within the UK market, many stone cladding products with similar colours and structures originate from the same quarry regions and associated factories. As such, samples remain a reliable reference for evaluating the visual characteristics of the stone prior to committing to a full order.
Ordering Guidance – Allowance Recommendation
- A. Although uncommon, minor transit damage can occasionally occur.
- B. Small top-up quantities sent by parcel couriers are statistically more prone to damage.
For safety, small quantities must be shipped by pallet delivery. This incurs a minimum ¼-pallet charge, making small replacement orders uneconomical.
